Novak Djokovic remains undefeated in China and has added yet another title to his massive collection! The Serbian won the China Open for the seventh time after Alex de Minor retired early in the second set of the final in Beijing.
Djokovic took the first set 7-6(3) in a hard-fought battle where the Australian put him under significant pressure, relying heavily on his exceptional movement on the court. The Serb, however, once again demonstrated his class at the crucial moments and managed to prevail in the tiebreak.
Afterward, both players required a medical timeout. De Minor temporarily left the court to receive treatment for a groin injury and returned for the second set. He managed to win the first game, but was then unable to continue and withdrew from the match.
Thus, the 39-year-old Djokovic celebrated the 102nd title of his career, just one title behind Roger Federer, who has 103. At the top of that list is Jimmy Connors with 109.
At the same time, the Serbian extended his incredible record at the China Open, now boasting 34 wins in as many matches at the tournament. Djokovic returned to Beijing this year for the first time since 2015, when he won his sixth title by defeating Rafael Nadal in the final. During this year’s tournament, he eliminated Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals, among others, while in the semifinals he advanced at the expense of Daniil Medvedev due to the Russian’s withdrawal.
