It’s time for the first trophy of the season. Arsenal and Manchester City face off (5:00 p.m.) in Cardiff for the Community Shield. The English Premier League champions and the FA Cup winners are… warming up, vying for the first trophy of the season.
The “Gunners” are the team with the most titles (17), behind Manchester United, which has the most (21). The “Citizens” have 7. Mikel Arteta holds the perfect record, having won two titles as a player and two more as a coach.
For Christos Tzolis’s new team—which will most likely feature in the starting lineup—Saliba and Timber are out, while Rice, Saka, and Thubimendi are expected to play, even though they missed a significant portion of preseason training due to time off following their participation in the World Cup.
For City, which is navigating the post-Guardiola era with Enzo Maresca shouldering the heavy burden, Rodri is out. Haaland is unlikely to start, having only recently returned to training, as have Gueye and Cherki. Ryders is expected to be out of the lineup.
Possible Arsenal starting lineups
(Mikel Arteta): Raya – White, Mosquera, Gabriel, Hinkapie – Guimaraes, Edegard, Luis-Skelly – Mandueke, Jolis, Havertz
Manchester City (Enzo Maresca): Donnarumma – Lewis, Dias, Gvardiol, Nouri – Kovacic, Gonzalez – Semenio, Foden, Doku – Marmous
