Atlético Madrid got off to the best possible start to the new La Liga season, defeating Málaga 2-0 in their opener and earning their first three points.
The “Roji Blancos” fielded a lineup with several changes and struggled to create chances in the first half, with the 0-0 halftime score reflecting the state of the match up to that point.
Even in the second half, Diego Simeone’s team failed to raise the tempo to high levels; however, the Argentine coach’s substitutions proved decisive.
Kang In Lee, in his debut with the “Roji Blancos,” opened the scoring in the 70th minute with a fine individual effort, while in the 85th minute, Baena sealed the 2-0 victory with a direct free kick.
