Kyriakos Theodorou, a spokesperson for the Police Press Office, spoke on “SUPERSPORT 104,” referring to AEL’s complaint regarding possible match-fixing in the game against APOEL, as well as to the cases that arose following the allegations made by Stavros Papastavrou. As he noted, the complaint regarding the APOEL-AEL match was filed two days ago and is currently being evaluated by the police.
Here is a detailed account of what was said:
Regarding AEL’s complaint to the police: “It was filed two days ago and concerns the possible manipulation of the APOEL-AEL match. The complaint is under review; I cannot go into details. In such cases, the police take a written statement regarding the complaint. If the investigative team believes it has sufficient evidence for prosecution, it immediately files the case in court; if legal advice is needed, it is referred to the Attorney General’s Office. “The police operate within their own framework and authority.”
Regarding the allegations made by Stavros Papastavrou: “As for Papastavrou’s findings, a number of cases were investigated by the Ethics Committee. There are cases where nothing came of them and they were closed, and there are also five cases currently before the court. One of these involves Mr. Koumas.”
