Brankou Bandio returned as one of the top players in the African qualifiers for the World Cup and has started training with Panathinaikos.

The Senegalese guard is spending his first few days with the seven-time champions under the guidance of Zeljko Obradovic, and speaking to Club1908, he discussed the team’s preseason so far, his collaboration with Zoc, his stay in Athens thus far, and the professionalism within the Panathinaikos organization.

On his first few days of preseason training with Panathinaikos: “Very good. I’m bonding with my teammates, and so far it’s been wonderful.”

On how he feels so far about the team’s routine: “Great. Everyone here is a professional and operates in a truly professional manner, so it’s going very well.”

On what has surprised him compared to his previous experiences: “I wouldn’t say it surprised me, but it’s important that everyone is united and we’re working together toward a common goal.”

On how much his discussions with Zoc and the rest of the coaching staff help him understand his role and what they expect from him on the court: “They help a lot, in terms of knowing what the coach needs from us and how he wants us to play, as well as getting to know his style of play.”

On his first impressions of Athens: “It’s a wonderful city. I really like it.”

On what about himself might surprise people: “I’m an ‘open book.’ I don’t think there’s anything.”

On what he enjoys most in his free time: “Spending time with my family and friends and going to restaurants. No, much more than that.”
