Vangelis Pavlidis had a tremendous opportunity to move to Turkey on favorable financial terms and with the possibility of an easy transfer the very next summer, provided his performance could warrant such a move.
Record reports that due to his decision to remain loyal to Benfica and continue contributing to the “Eagles” of Lisbon—and having made an impressive start to this season—the Greek forward will be rewarded.
He will receive a bonus as a sign that the Portuguese club recognizes his contribution and the way he thought, acted, and made decisions over the summer.
Fenerbahçe offered 50 million, was paying him an 8 million euro salary plus bonuses, and his buyout clause was just 25 million, an amount that could easily have ended up in the Turkish club’s coffers the very next summer.
The international forward chose not to heed the “sirens” from our neighboring country, and this prompted Benfica to expedite the process so they could offer him a bonus as a “thank you” and “well done” for everything he has accomplished at the start of this soccer season.
