Ahead of tomorrow’s (August 20) first match between Omonia and Sint-Truiden in Belgium, as part of the Europa League playoffs, the coach of the “Greens,” Henning Berg, in remarks he made during the customary press conference.
The Norwegian coach noted the unique nature of the synthetic turf, paid tribute to the opponent for its attacking prowess, and emphasized that the team has retained the same core roster as last season.
At the same time, he explained why Mayabela was left out, revealing that he chose to sit him out as a precaution, even though he isn’t dealing with a serious injury.
Regarding the status of Aiting, Satka, and Duvern, he emphasized that the first still needs time, the second did not participate in preseason training, while the latter is available.
In detail: “Sint-Truiden is certainly a team that had a good run last year, finishing in 3rd place in Belgium, and when you play against teams from Belgium, you know you’re up against a quality side. We’ll do our best to try to advance.
They’re an attacking team, and the fact that they play on this type of surface—artificial turf—makes the game faster. The difference between our current field and Lincoln’s is that it’s expected to be wet tomorrow, which should make the game faster—and that’s a positive for both teams.
Also, – essentially the same team as last season; they have the same coach, so he knows his roster very well, as well as the quality of his players and the structure of their game.
It’s a team with a very solid structure on the offensive end; it has an attacking mindset and, especially at home, is eager to score—though, of course, it plays offensively on the road as well. They’re a team that’s technically very strong, with good structure in their play and a similar style to last year’s.”
On Mayabela: “Mayabela is an important player; we wanted him to be with us. His injury isn’t serious, but we preferred to play it safe.”
On Aiting, Satka, and Duvern: “Aiting is doing well; he’s been training for a week now, but he needs time. Satka didn’t participate in preseason training and is a bit behind, while Duvern is ready and available.”
