Following Omonia’s 0-0 draw against Korona Kielce in their third and final match on Polish soil, Henning Berg spoke to the team’s official channel.
The Norwegian coach reviewed the friendly matches, spoke generally about the new season, and discussed the team’s new signing, Loïc Nego.
Here’s what he said in detail
First, regarding the friendly match, he said: “It was a good preseason game for us, this time against a team that allowed us to have more possession and dominate for longer stretches of the match. Against Hapoel Be’er Sheva, it was a little different, but that game was also a very high-level test for us. We had good control of the match and dominated. What we need now is to create more chances from the possession we have, which will come with more work and by further improving the players’ match fitness. We’re still in the preseason, which is why this particular game was a very useful test for us.”
On the new season: “Last year was a special season for us. Years like that don’t come around very often. This year, we’ll have a somewhat different team. Some players have left, and some new ones have joined. We have a good squad, and, of course, our goal is to compete for every title we’re in the running for. However, every season is different. The most important thing for us is to focus on our performances and on continuously improving, both as a team and individually. We want to push ourselves as hard as we can, because we’ve already built a solid foundation. Now we need time to work together again, develop even better chemistry, and find the right timing and pace for the game. But I believe we’re on the right track.”
On the transfer and Nego: “He’s an experienced player. He’s 35 years old, so he’s not a long-term solution. However, since the two right backs who played for us last year are no longer with us, we felt he was the best option for the immediate future. He’s a good player. He played in almost every first-division game in France last season and has a great deal of experience. We look forward to seeing him get into the best possible playing condition, be ready to play, and help the team, just as all our players do. Of course, he’ll compete for his spot on the team just like everyone else, through healthy competition, and that’s a positive thing. We also have Montnor, who has been with us throughout the entire preseason. He’s adapting more and more to the team, getting to know his teammates better, and today he showed some very positive signs. We know he’s a good player. All he needs now is to find the right timing and get into his rhythm on the field.”
