Omonia coach Henning Berg gave post-match comments following the Europa League third qualifying round match against Lincoln.
The Norwegian coach appeared pleased with how the players handled the match, expressed his delight at securing a spot in the Conference League group stage, but emphasized that the main goal is the second-tier European competition. He concluded by describing the upcoming matches against Sint-Truiden as more… normal.
Here’s what he said in detail: “We’re very happy about advancing, and we’ve secured a spot in the League Phase. That was a key goal. Now we’re focused on the Europa League playoffs. Of course, we dreamed of the Champions League group stage, but we all know how that turned out. Now we’re fighting for the Europa League. We had a tough first away game against Lincoln, and today was a hard-fought match in the second leg. It ended at just 1-0; I believe if we’d scored a second goal, the score would have been much higher. Now we have a more typical match against Sint-Truiden for the Europa League playoffs. It’s a more typical match given where we are right now in Europe. Lincoln was certainly competitive, but there was a difference in quality; even when you’re playing in the Cup against a second-division team, if you don’t score quickly, the opponent definitely gains momentum and you start to get nervous. My players managed the match well; we kept a clean sheet, we fought hard, and the players did everything they could to advance. Now we’re focusing on the next match.”
