With a goal in the final moments of the match, Omonia lost 1-0 to Sint-Truiden in their first head-to-head match of the Europa League playoffs.
After the match, Henning Berg expressed satisfaction with his players’ effort, emphasizing that: “The only thing we didn’t manage to do today was score.”
At the same time, he highlighted the challenges posed by both the field and the opponent, setting the tone ahead of the second leg.
Here are Berg’s comments in detail:
“We’re halfway through this series. We played a good game on a difficult field. We were very good with the ball; we had the most and the best chances of the match. The only thing we couldn’t manage to do today was score, even though we created some really big chances. It’s hard to defend constantly on this field against this opponent. It’s not easy, especially when they put pressure on us with crosses into the box. In open play, however, we defended very well, and we were very good at playing our game. We did quite a few things well, and we’re looking forward to the second half at home.”
For his part, Muamer Tanković, speaking to OMONOIA TV, called on the fans to show their support and help the team stage a comeback at the GSP.
Here are Tanković’s comments in full:
“I agree that the score isn’t fair. For 75 minutes, we controlled the game, but in the last 15–20 minutes we faltered—maybe it was fatigue. Even the goal we conceded wasn’t a clear chance—it was a cross—and perhaps our positioning could have been better. But that’s how soccer is in Europe—when you have 1, 2, or 3 chances and don’t score, it gets ruthless. Still, there are plenty of positives we can take into the second leg. We’ll be even more hungry for the second game. We’re working every day building on the foundation we laid last season. We want to improve on that season. As time goes on, we’re getting into better shape. We need to be a little more ruthless in the final third, in the closing stages. We’ll give it our all in the rematch. We want every fan behind us, and we’ll give it everything we’ve got.”
