Is Mourinho leaving Real Madrid? This is the “hot” topic that has been on the minds of “Merengues” fans—and others—over the past 24 hours. Doubts about the “Special One” seem to be mounting in Madrid, with the club’s management accusing him of failing to improve the team’s performance on the field.
Journalist Jorge S. Picón, who contributes to the Spanish newspaper “AS,” among others, and Sergio Valentín of “Marca” reported in their posts on X that Real Madrid’s management is disappointed with the team’s performance so far this season.

Club president Florentino Pérez and other key members of the administration expected much more from Mourinho’s return to the “Queen’s” bench, especially since he was given complete freedom to plan and build the roster over the summer.
According to the two Spanish journalists, the team’s performances do not meet the club’s high standards, and bear many similarities to last season, when Real Madrid finished the year without winning a single title. Although the players are said to continue supporting the Portuguese coach, the front office appears increasingly cautious, mainly due to the lack of a clear playing identity.
This is Florentino Pérez’s top choice for Real Madrid’s head coaching position
In fact, according to Sergio Valentín, Florentino Pérez is already preparing behind the scenes for the possibility of immediately terminating his contract with Mourinho. Real Madrid’s power broker is said to have confided to those close to him that he has already decided on the coach he would like to take over the team’s technical leadership, should there be a change on the bench.
And that person is none other than Didier Deschamps. After 14 years at the helm of the French national team, the 58-year-old coach is currently without a team. Deschamps led the “Tricolors” to the 2018 World Cup title and to the 2022 World Cup final, but stepped down after the team finished fourth at the North American finals.
In fact, he explained that he chose to step down in order to prevent the situation from worsening further and to protect the French national team.
As for Mourinho, the Portuguese coach and Real Madrid have crucial matches ahead of them in the coming days, already trailing defending champion Barcelona by seven points after nine league matches. First, they face Leipzig (Oct. 21, 10:00 p.m.) in the Champions League, followed by an away match against Barcelona for El Clásico next Sunday (Oct. 25, 10:00 p.m.).
As a reminder, AEK will face Real Madrid on November 4 at 7:45 p.m. in the Champions League.
