An incredible comeback and a huge upset for Brighton at Old Trafford! The “Seagulls” found themselves down 2-0 against Manchester United, but they turned the game on its head in the second half and, with a 3-2 final score, celebrated their advancement to the Carabao Cup Round of 16.
The star of the show for Brighton was Babis Kostoulas, who put in an outstanding performance and played a decisive role in the comeback. The Greek forward was at the heart of his team’s most important moments, bringing the visitors back into the game with the goal that made it 2-1, while his own effort led to the third goal.
United came out strong and took a two-goal lead within just ten minutes. Lacey opened the scoring in the 8th minute, while Mason Mount doubled the “Red Devils’” lead in the 10th minute.
Brighton, however, didn’t crumble. In stoppage time of the first half, Kostoulas put his team back in the game, cutting the deficit to 2-1 with a flawless finish.
In the second half, Fabian Hirzler’s team dramatically stepped up their performance and were rewarded. Pascal Gross equalized in the 65th minute, before De Keper completed the comeback in the 70th minute, setting the final score at 3-2.
Manchester United tried to mount a comeback until the very end, but Brighton held on and celebrated a remarkable victory at Old Trafford.
In other matches, Everton defeated Wolves 1-0 and advanced to the Round of 16. Carlos Alcaraz scored the game’s only goal in the 80th minute, following an assist from Dibling, securing his team’s spot in the next round.
In other matches, Aston Villa defeated Coventry 3-1 and also advanced to the next round, with Tammy Abraham playing a starring role by scoring twice, while the formidable Fleetwood defeated Sheffield United 1-0 and advanced to the round of 16.
