Apostolos Siskos is making Greece proud, and at just 21 years old, he is making his mark at the European Swimming Championships being held in Paris.
With an unprecedented surge in the final meters, the Greek athlete clocked a legendary time of 1:54.13 and, setting a national record in the 200-meter butterfly, took third place and will step onto the podium to receive his bronze medal. In the semifinal, he had clocked 1:55.55, securing his spot in the final.
For most of the race, Siskos was between 5th and 6th place, but in the final meters he surged ahead and, in a dramatic photo finish, crossed the line in 3rd place, shattering all expectations.
Following his silver medal in the 200-meter backstroke, Siskos adds yet another medal to his collection, and at the age of 21, he seems determined to dominate European and World swimming for many years to come; with the sky now being the limit.
