Giorgos Papagiannis’s return to competitive action has been delayed once again, as the Greek center is not expected to be available for Anadolu Efes at the start of the new season.
Papagiannis has been undergoing rehabilitation for about ten months now, following a serious knee injury he sustained during a game between Efes and Panathinaikos in Istanbul. The torn ACL he suffered sidelined him for the remainder of last season, and since then he has been following a treatment and rehabilitation program aimed at his full return.
However, as revealed by the Turkish team’s general manager, Özgür Aliöz, the 29-year-old center will not be ready in time for the start of Efes’s official games. His condition, however, is being evaluated on a weekly basis, which leaves room for optimism regarding the progress of his recovery.
“Papagiannis and Cordinié are currently undergoing treatment. However, it appears that neither of them will be available for the start of the season, but their status is being evaluated on a week-by-week basis,” he told beIN Sports.
As a result, Papagiannis will have to wait a little longer before returning to the court, with Efes starting the new season without a key part of its frontcourt.
