James Harden continues to make his mark in the NBA, and his new contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers places him in a very exclusive financial club.
With the new three-year contract worth $97 million, Harden’s total earnings from his NBA career are expected to reach $511 million. Thus, “The Beard” becomes only the fourth player in league history to surpass the $500 million mark.
At the top of this exclusive club are LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry, with Harden now joining this exclusive list, confirming not only his remarkable playing career but also his longevity at the highest level.
This achievement takes on even greater significance when one considers his age. Harden turns 37 on August 26, and when he officially signs his new contract, he will become only the second player in NBA history to secure more than $90 million in guaranteed earnings at age 37 or older.
The only player to have done so before him is LeBron James, a fact that places Harden in yet another elite category alongside one of the greatest players of all time.
The 11-time All-Star, then, didn’t just secure yet another big contract. With his return to the Cavaliers and the new financial terms, he adds two impressive records to his resume and continues his journey as one of the highest-paid and most influential players of his generation.
