Argentina came within a hair’s breadth of a back-to-back title, but Spain proved to be the better team and, led by hero Ferran Torres, won the World Cup and is the new world champion.
The “Albiceleste” returned to their home base in Buenos Aires, but several players did not join the rest of the squad. Lionel Messi was one of them, as he returned to Miami with his wife and children. In the coming days, he is expected to travel to Rosario to be with his family.
In addition to Messi, nine other players did not return with the team: Rodrigo De Paul, Enzo Fernández, Lautaro Martínez, Julián Álvarez, Jerónimo Rui, Nico Paz, Cristian Romero, Nahuel Molina, and Juan Musso.
The above players had received special permission to follow a different training schedule than the rest of the Argentine national team.
