Omonia’s second friendly match in Poland ended in a draw!
After a positive… warm-up match against Dinamo Bucharest, the “Greens” settled for a… satisfying 2-2 draw with Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
Henning Berg once again had the opportunity to give playing time to several players and draw useful conclusions ahead of the rest of the preseason. The only player missing for the Norwegian coach—as in the first friendly—was Muamer Tanković, who is dealing with an injury.
The match was overshadowed by the death of the former president of the “green” club, Doros Serafim, whom the Nicosia team honored by observing a minute of silence before kickoff as a small token of respect for his contributions to the club.
As for the match, the Israelis came out stronger and opened the scoring as early as the tenth minute on a set piece, with Diop beating Fabiano with a header.
Despite the… lackluster start, the “Greens” didn’t take long to find their footing and threatened twice, before Hatzigiovanis tied the match in the 41st minute with a penalty kick that he had earned himself.
At the very end of the first half, the opponent had the… last word, regaining the lead thanks to Zlatanović in the 44th minute.
After the break, Omonia dominated for most of the time and pressed hard in search of another equalizer, which they found in the 87th minute with a “masterful” goal by Neophytou. Ten minutes earlier, Hapoel Be’er Sheva nearly extended their lead, but luckily for the “Greens,” the ball hit the crossbar.
At times, the heavy rain made conditions difficult for the players and forced the referee to end the match earlier than scheduled.
Omonia’s starting lineup: Fabiano (46′ Michael), Odumbajo (62′ Panagi), Koulibaly (62′ Konstantinidis), Panagiotou (46′ Simic), Balkovec (46′ Christou), Andreou (46′ Maric), Aiting (62′ Kousoulos), Evanro (62′ Christoforou), Hatzigiovanis (46′ Mayabela), Montnor (62′ Evangelou), Kakoullis (62′ Neophytou).
