Juancho Hernangómez spoke about the love he receives at Panathinaikos, which has… captivated him and led him to the easy decision to renew his contract.
“I’ve found a place where I’m very happy with the way they live and breathe basketball… It was a very difficult first year, but we won everything, and when you win there, it’s something epic. I feel that they love and appreciate me a lot. Being loved is always good,” he told “Marca.”
“I had one more year left on my contract, and, yes, I had offers from other teams, but I don’t think Panathinaikos would have let me go. I believe the best thing for me was to stay there long-term, since I feel the love from the fans, the owner, and the coach. It’s a decision I’m very happy with.
That’s the pressure we face at Panathinaikos. We sign the best of the best, and just reaching a final isn’t enough for us. We have to compete for titles, and that’s how they see it too; they want to invest heavily in the best available players and win. We have no other choice,” he added.
As for his collaboration with Željko Obradović, he said: “They brought in Obradović, who is a legend. He’s won the EuroLeague six times there, and I’m really looking forward to learning from him. I spoke with him before renewing my contract. I like learning from the best.”
