Cristiano Ronaldo faces a suspension of up to six months, following his sudden departure from the Portuguese national team after a heated disagreement with the team’s coach, Jorge Jesus.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, the disciplinary regulations of the Portuguese Football Federation provide for the automatic imposition of a penalty in such cases. Now, the relevant disciplinary body must decide on the length of the suspension, which can range from one to six months.

The tension is reportedly due to the 41-year-old forward’s dissatisfaction with his playing time during the international break. Ronaldo left the training camp and subsequently released a lengthy statement, in which he apologized to his teammates and the Portuguese people, taking full responsibility for his actions.

In fact, the Portuguese captain emphasized that his behavior must have consequences, noting that his role as captain is an aggravating factor and that the same rules must apply to all players, regardless of name or status.

The final decision is expected to be made after all the facts have been evaluated, including Ronaldo’s statement. According to ESPN, the most likely scenario is that he will receive a lighter penalty.

However, if the suspension exceeds one month, the Portuguese star risks missing his national team’s Nations League matches against Denmark and Wales next month.
