Olympiacos is reportedly trying to sign a top-tier center forward.
According to Argentine journalist Nauel Ferreira, the Piraeus club is in negotiations with Mauro Icardi, who is a free agent following his time at Galatasaray.
The 33-year-old striker has had a distinguished career. He came up through the Barcelona youth system, moved to the Sampdoria youth system, and played for the Italian club’s first team. Two years later, he joined Inter Milan in a €13 million transfer and served as the team’s captain for several years (219 appearances, 124 goals).
He also played for Paris Saint-Germain (93 appearances, 38 goals) and Galatasaray (134 appearances, 77 goals), and earned 8 caps for Argentina. An exceptional “finisher,” he was regarded by the “Nerazzurri” as the next leader and one of the greatest center forwards of his era, though in the end he failed to fully live up to those expectations.
He is, however, a player who has made headlines several times for off-field issues, mainly regarding his relationship with his ex-wife, Wanda Nara.
