The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, spoke tonight about the contributions of the “Keravnos Strovolos” Association to society at large.
In remarks to reporters as he arrived at an event marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Keravnos Strovolos Association, the President of the Republic said: “For Strovolos, and indeed for Cyprus, ‘Keravnos’—long before the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus—was never merely a sports club.
In sports, the team’s successes are well known to everyone. It began with soccer and track and field; today, in basketball, it excels both abroad and in Cyprus, but it was never just a sports club.
It plays a significant role in cultural and social life, with a presence at all of our country’s national events. And we are fortunate to have people like Paris Papaellinas who are involved in sports, not simply to win or to compete at the highest level, but to instill in the younger generation—especially our young people who face challenges today—a sense of ethics and sportsmanship. This is ‘Keravnos’ most important contribution to Cypriot society—especially today—because it is not limited to Strovolos but extends to Cypriot society as a whole.”
