AEK’s press officer, Kyriakos Dimitriou, spoke to “SPOR FM 95.0” about the team’s preparations in the Netherlands, the friendly match against PAOK, the team’s schedule, and upcoming friendly matches.
Highlights of his remarks:
On preseason training: “The weather conditions are nothing like those in Cyprus—it’s around 25 degrees here—and we’re quite satisfied with the team’s accommodations. We’re entering the final stretch of our preparation here. We’re having double training sessions, and on Friday, with our final friendly match, we’ll wrap up our preparations. We’ll be back on Saturday.”
On today’s friendly against PAOK: “We’ve already played our first friendly; the level of difficulty is rising, and this is an opportunity to assess the players’ readiness. It’s a useful test to get the team in shape ahead of official matches. We won the last friendly, but what really matters is that the coach got to see the team. We’ve made some changes; it’s important to note that our new signings have been with us since the first day of preseason training. Amin has also returned and is now available to the coach.”
Regarding Anderegen and Samborit: “Samborit was held out of the first friendly because he had a minor niggle; as for Anderegen, he was showing signs of fatigue, so we decided to give him a rest. We’ll see how things go so he can return as well. I’m not sure about today’s friendly, but I think Samborit will be available.”
Regarding TV coverage: “It will be broadcast on the Greek channel OPEN; I don’t know if an agreement will be reached in Cyprus. It will be broadcast on OPEN’s hybrid TV service.”
On transfers: “I stand by what I’ve said. We’ve moved forward with our plans; we have the new players here with us, providing options across all positions. We’re still a few days away from the first official match. The priority is for the players we’ve brought in to get into the swing of things so that we’re ready by July 23.”
Regarding the president: “He’ll be watching today’s friendly in person, just like he did on Friday. He usually watches part of the preseason training.”
On Beitar: “There’s interest in the trip to Romania. We’re keeping an eye on the changes they’re making to their roster; it’s the coaching staff’s job to conduct the proper analysis and convey what they observe to the players. It’s worth noting that we’ve sold over 1,000 season tickets.”
On Tsakon: “He’s doing quite well, right on schedule. We expect to see him getting closer to his return to competitive action next month.”
On the roster presentation: “On July 17, one day before our anniversary, in collaboration with the fan clubs outside the ‘AEK Arena,’ we’ll hold an event to unveil the uniforms and the roster.”
