Shortly before Omonia’s departure for Belgium, the team’s press officer, Andreas Dimitriou, spoke about the first match against Sint-Truiden in the Europa League playoffs.
The “Greens’” press officer discussed the Belgian team’s strength, Omonia’s preparation, the match dynamics, and the important support from the fans standing by the team.
Here is what he said in detail:
On Sint-Truiden: “This is an important match for Omonia. In this major competition, the Europa League playoffs, we’re facing a team that finished third last season in the Belgian league, which is certainly one of the best in Europe. This fact demonstrates the level of this team and the quality it possesses. It’s a team that has been striving in recent years to join the country’s top clubs, and it succeeded last year with a very strong run. This is certainly their first appearance in Europe. We understand that they’ll be full of enthusiasm for their debut.”
On the team’s preparation: “Beyond that, we’ve been working hard these past few days to prepare as best we can, analyzing both our opponent and the conditions we expect to face there. We’ll try to play a good game, tailored to the needs of the match, and we hope to get a result that will serve as a solid foundation ahead of the rematch at our home stadium.”
Regarding the team’s status: “Maya Bela and Ondubagio are out. Mayabela had a muscle strain, so he’s out. We’ll evaluate his condition over the next few days to see how long he’ll be sidelined and whether he’ll be available for the rematch. The coach has also included the team’s two latest additions in his plans, so we have more options to manage the roster accordingly, based on the needs of the game.”
Regarding the fans: “We’re expecting about 150 fans tomorrow. Their support will certainly be important to the team, and we hope that by the end of the match, we’ll all be satisfied with the result.”
