AEK’s press officer, Kyriakos Dimitriou, made statements to “SPOR FM 95.0.”
He began by referring to the difficult victory over Akritas, the team’s problematic performance, and the need to bounce back ahead of Monday’s derby against Omonia. At the same time, he discussed the match situation, the absences, and the players’ condition, emphasizing that the team acknowledges its mistakes and must return to winning ways in front of its fans.
His comments:
On yesterday’s qualification and the difficult match: “From the very moment yesterday’s game ended, we didn’t hide behind the fact that we qualified, but we’ve said that it’s the only positive. It was tougher than expected. We gave credit to Akritas for their performance. Now we’re focusing on our own team. There’s no room for excuses; what matters is that we focus on what comes next. We’ll take away that our performance didn’t cost us the game, and we can’t take anything else away from it besides the qualification.”
On the performance: “You won’t hear any excuses from me. It wasn’t the game we needed to play, and fortunately, we didn’t pay the price for it. Now we’re thinking about the derby against Omonia. We don’t have much to take away from this; on the contrary, we have a lot to fix. We trust the work being done and the roster, and we also believe that in a marathon, there will be some bad nights.”
On the fact that the team’s performance in the game was mediocre: “Let’s be honest, every game is different. It’s one thing against Aris, another against Akritas in the cup, and yet another against Omonia. There’s certainly cause for concern, which is why there was the expected booing after the final whistle. Now we have to go for the win against Omonia, at home, in front of our fans, and we have to pull it off.”
Regarding the fans and the fact that an apology was issued yesterday: “We had nothing else to say yesterday. We’re turning the page, and that’s what we’re asking of the fans. We need their help and support to get the result on Monday.”
Regarding the fact that some fans believe there are gaps in the roster and mistakes were made: “We acknowledge that last night was a bad night, and things like that can happen in a long season. The good news is that we didn’t pay the price for it. But that doesn’t mean we don’t believe in the work being done and the expectations the team itself has set. I’d like to remind you that last week we were in first place and now we’re in second. We want to get back to winning in Monday’s game.”
On Anderegen: “He’s out for the matches against Omonia and Krasava ENY. Unfortunately for us, we’re losing him for two games because he’s our most productive player.”
On the squad: “Tsakon played yesterday and is back in the coach’s plans. We believe Pileas will be ready, as will Köhler. Ivanović is resting at home and his participation is doubtful, while Amin hasn’t quite gotten back up to speed yet.”
