Olympiacos held on in the second half and… threw away the first.
Just as in their first friendly against Rakow, the “Red-and-Whites” showed two different sides in tonight’s friendly against Leuven, with the two teams drawing 1-1 in the friendly match that took place in Siedam, Netherlands.
From the first 45 minutes, the Piraeus side and José Luis Mendilibar didn’t have much to show for their efforts beyond pressing high up the field, since the Olympiacos players looked tired and lacked energy and creativity in their play. The second half was a different story, as the entry of André Luís and Zélson Martins onto the field “spiced up” the “Red-and-Whites’” play, creating several good chances in front of the opponent’s goal.
It was a combination between the two that led to the 1-0 goal, with the Brazilian winger—who is headed to the U.S. and MLS—scoring his first goal for Olympiacos in the 68th minute, and the Belgians equalizing in the 86th minute with a header by Mourou.
Olympiacos’ starting lineup: Tzolakis (46′ Stournaras) – Siozos (46′ Mafeo), Koutsidis (46’ Smailović), Karmo (46’ Pirolá), Ortega (46’ Bruno) – Sipioni (46’ Filis), Ese (46′ García – 54′ Sipioni) – Rodinei (46′ André Luís), Masouras (46′ Zelson), Fortounis (46′ Chiquinho) – Clayton (7′ Yaremchuk – 72′ Masouras).
