Konstantinos Karetsas's latest setback—his injury—has caused concern within Borussia Dortmund, with the German club’s staff now awaiting the results of the medical evaluation to determine the extent of the injury.

The Greek attacking midfielder was once again unlucky in the match against Union Berlin, as he suffered an ankle injury. At this time, there is no clear picture of his condition, with Dortmund coach Niko Kovac refraining from making any estimates regarding the length of his absence.

After the match, the Croatian coach expressed his support for the young player, noting that his condition must first be evaluated. At the same time, he spoke about the difficulties the player has faced since joining the team.

“We need to assess the extent of the injury. Right now, I feel sorry for the kid, who certainly hasn’t had the best luck since he arrived here,” Kovac said.

For his part, Dortmund’s sporting director, Ole Buk, described the circumstances under which Karetsas was injured, expressing hope that it wasn’t anything serious.

“He twisted his ankle when an opponent stepped on his foot. Let’s hope it’s not too serious. He’s not feeling well right now,” said Buch.

Lars Ricken, the club’s sporting director, echoed those sentiments. The Westphalian official made it clear that it is not yet possible to draw a definitive conclusion about the severity of the injury.

“We’ll have to investigate further to determine how serious the injury is. We can’t provide a diagnosis at this point,” he stated.

Concerns about Karetsa had already become apparent before the match against Union. Kovac had referred to the previous difficult moment the Greek star experienced, when he collapsed during a Champions League match, implying that the incident continues to affect him.

“We all remember the situation when Kostas collapsed during the Champions League match. I think it’s still on his mind. We can’t ignore that,” the Dortmund coach told Sky Sports.

Kovac added, in fact, that the player has not yet returned to the level he was at before that incident, clarifying that he does not believe this necessarily explains his current form.

Now, attention is focused on Karetsa’s medical tests. Until an official announcement is made, Dortmund is avoiding speculation, hoping that the injury will prove to be less serious than the team initially feared.
