The racing action continues in spectacular fashion during this year’s 13th Formula 1 weekend, with Mercedes responding forcefully to Ferrari during free practice at the Italian Grand Prix.
Just an hour after the Scuderia’s “1-2” finish in FP1, the “Silver Arrows” significantly improved their performance on the legendary Monza circuit, with George Russell setting the fastest time in FP2 at 1:22.559.
The Mercedes engineers made the most of the one hour of practice time available to them and managed to put together a very well-set-up car ahead of the weekend’s schedule, as evidenced by Kimi Antonelli’s third-place finish.
Charles Leclerc finished in second place, 0.120 seconds behind, with Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, and Oscar Piastri rounding out the top six.
Max Verstappen finished quite far back, with the Dutch Red Bull driver—who did not participate in FP1—finishing the second practice session in 8th place and nearly a second behind Russell.
