According to a new report by “Nogomania,” Žan Karnitsnik has reached an agreement with Maribor, signing a two-year contract. The Slovenian defender did not wish to continue the “cycle” of negotiations, even though he was on the radar of Omonia and other teams.

Here is what the report says in detail

“Zlatko Zahovič finally managed to convince Slovenian international Jan Karnitchnik today. Maribor’s sporting director and the currently unsigned player have finally reached an agreement! The deal they struck is reportedly for two years!

Karnitsnik did not want to wait for offers from abroad to be finalized. He had several options open to him, the most notable of which was Cyprus’s Omonia, but the former player and captain of Celje and former Mura player didn’t want to wait any longer. In the meantime, the Cypriots had already found another player for that position. Zahovič managed to take advantage of this. He convinced the player; he was quick and to the point. If Jan Karnitsnik had stayed in Celje, he would have played in the Champions League qualifiers, whereas with Maribor he would have played only in the domestic league and cup.

We await official confirmation of the transfer, which could be extremely important for Maribor, but will likely be met with disappointment in Celje soon.”
