Red Star and Paris got off to a winning start—Real Madrid remains winless

Concerns for Mike James at Efes
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Red Star made a strong debut in this year’s EuroLeague, in a game where the entire European basketball world was on the edge of their seats, anxious about Mike James’s condition!

On Thursday night (October 1), the “Red-and-Whites” narrowly defeated Anadolu Efes 77-72 in Belgrade in the third round of the EuroLeague, celebrating their first win of the season. The game was a thriller from start to finish, before the Serbs proved to be the cooler team down the stretch and secured the victory.

However, the game was marred by Mike James’s very serious injury to the Achilles tendon in his right foot, with the American superstar getting hurt in an unexpected play toward the end of the third quarter and then leaving the court in tears on a stretcher.

Moneke led the winners with 18 points and 7 rebounds, while Carter finished the game with 11 points, many of them in the crucial final minutes. For the Turks, who fell to 1-2, Lloyd and Saric stood out with 17 and 13 points, respectively.

Paris also celebrated its first victory! After a very close game with plenty of thrills and intense battles at the “Adidas Arena,” Coach Lefevre’s team secured a hard-fought but well-deserved 82-78 victory over Zalgiris in the third round of the EuroLeague!

The French team held the lead for most of the game; however, they had to come back from a 5-point deficit in the final five minutes to secure their first victory in the competition.

The top performer for the winners was none other than Nadir Ifi with 21 points and 2 assists, while Dokosi added 8 points and an equal number of rebounds. For the Lithuanians, who fell to 1-2, Valanciunas was out of the game (12 pts., 6 rbs.), while Edwards scored 19 points but was hopelessly off-target, going 7-for-22 from the field.

Hapoel Tel Aviv survived the craziest game of this season’s EuroLeague and secured the victory in the “clash of the titans” against Real Madrid!

On Thursday night (10/1), Dimitris Itoudis’s team celebrated a huge 102-98 victory over the “Merengues” in Sofia, Bulgaria, for the third round of the competition—a game that had it all!

The Israelis had an incredible first half and led by 20 points (63–43), before Real, with a legendary, sustained comeback in the third quarter, took the lead 75-74! In the end, however, Hapoel proved to be the cooler and more accurate team at the crucial moments, thus making it 2-1 on the season, while the Spaniards remain winless!

Leading the winners was the formidable Elajja Bryant with 22 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, and a 40 in the efficiency rating (!), with Mitcitis (22 pts.), LeDay (15 pts.), and Campoclo (15 pts.) following closely behind.

For the “Merengues,” Maledon stood out with 26 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds, also racking up 40 points in the PIR. However, due to Real’s loss, he will not be eligible for the MVP award for this round.
