Giorgos ZAchariadis, in statements he made to SPOR FM 95.0.
The GSO press officer expressed his confidence that the stadium would have received the necessary approvals by the afternoon, outlined the changes that had been made, and emphasized that the historic home stadium will not be abandoned.
In detail:
Regarding the Tsireio Stadium license: “We have implemented everything that was requested of us so that first-division teams can play at the stadium. We expect to receive approval today. The licensing authorities have sent inspectors to inspect the stadium. I estimate that by this afternoon we will have approval for Tsireio. We spent more than 120,000 euros to secure the license. We understand the teams and the fans. We want to help ensure that the city’s most historic stadium remains operational. The board members are volunteers. Some of us have put our personal work on hold to secure the permit. I believe that by this afternoon we’ll have a very positive outcome.”
Regarding the closed-circuit TV system: “The closed-circuit TV system has been installed. Everything is in order, following inspections by the police and experts. We meet the criteria.”
Regarding Karmiotissa and ENY, who are interested in playing at the stadium: “We’ve kept them waiting a bit, but once the go-ahead is given, I think they’ll have second thoughts. We’re ready and can host games right now. There’s a call for applications, and the teams will need to submit a request to be granted an exemption to play at Tsireio Stadium. The Federation’s approval is required.”
Regarding the changes: “In addition to the turf, maintenance work has been carried out in the VIP areas, the press boxes, and the referees’ room. We’ve also renovated the east stand. We’ve improved the lighting, which will be further enhanced. We’ve fixed everything.”
Regarding the stands: “The upper level of the east stand will be open. In the west stand, both the upper and lower levels will be available.”
Regarding the track: “We have a good working relationship with the KOA, and there is a request to repair the track. We’ve also spoken with the minister, and everyone is on board.”
On the possibility of a negative response: “If we’re asked to do anything, we’ll take care of it. We won’t abandon this historic stadium.”
Final comment: “I invite you all to the first game of the first division.”
