Shahid El Alahi made his first statements as an Aris player.
The Dutch-Moroccan forward spoke about his first experience playing abroad, the goals he hopes to achieve with the team, and his personality both on and off the field.
Here’s what he said in detail
On his feelings about his first stint abroad: “I feel very excited; it’s definitely a new adventure. It’s my first time abroad, away from my family, but I think it’s a good step for my life and my soccer career. I can’t wait to get started.”
When asked if he’d asked anyone about Aris: “Yes, of course. When I found out I’d finally be coming here, I looked it up online and also asked some good friends who’d visited Limassol and liked the city. The weather is nice, life is good.”
On whether he knew the team before signing: “No, I just knew that a Dutch player had played here in the past, but that’s all.”
On the goals he wants to achieve with the team: “Definitely to finish high in the standings, to secure our spot in Europe for next year, and I hope to be an important part of the team. It’s definitely going to be a good year; we have a good team, a good coaching staff, and I think the results will be good.”
His strengths as a soccer player: “One of my strengths is that I like to play one-on-one. I like to score, provide assists, and make an impact with my plays. I also have a competitive spirit, and I like to fight—just as much as I like to win.”
On the number he chose to wear: “The number 70 doesn’t mean anything to me, but I had a good feeling about it, and I told myself that ‘70’ would be good for me. I believe it will suit me well.”
On his personality off the field: “I’m a very calm guy and a family man. I like spending time with my family, even though it’ll be harder now, but I believe my family will come visit me every so often. I like to play table tennis and FIFA with some friends and relax while drinking coffee. Basically, just relaxing.”
His message to the team’s fans: “They can expect fighting spirit, goals, assists, and one-on-one plays from me, and I love enjoying the atmosphere and the fans—it’s definitely going to be a great season.”
