Nestor El Maestro appeared disappointed following Anorthosis’s 3-1 loss to Paphos in Matchday 5 of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan.
The “Lady” coach said at the press conference that he was pleased with the team’s performance in the first half, but expressed concern about the turnaround after halftime.
On the other hand, Ricardo Sa Pinto called the result fair, while offering his condolences to the team’s goalkeeper coach, who lost his father during the match.
Here’s what was said in detail:
Nestor El Maestro (Anorthosis): “Obviously, this game had two halves. In the first 45 minutes, we were very happy; we executed our game plan, attacked the space well, and could have even gone into halftime up 2-0. Unfortunately, in the second half, everything turned upside down—a difficult result that disappointed us. We need to play better; we’ll try to turn things around going forward. Every goal we concede worries us and gives us pause—it doesn’t matter when it happens. We need to change our mindset immediately. I wanted us to keep up the same pace in the second half, but that didn’t work out.”
Ricardo Sa Pinto (Paphos): “My condolences to our goalkeeper coach, who lost his father during the match. At times like this, the score and the result take a back seat. We found out as soon as we entered the locker room. In the first half, we controlled the game; we had some good opportunities on offense but didn’t finish them off properly. At the same time, we struggled on the counterattack, which is how we conceded the goal—something that also happened against AEL. In the second half, we made adjustments, and I believe the result is fair. We gave playing time to players like Brito and Correia, who had been sidelined.”
