On Tuesday afternoon (September 22), the Greek tennis player defeated the Czech player, Linda Froubertova, after a match lasting 1 hour and 26 minutes, thus celebrating her advancement to the second round of the WTA 500 tournament!

Although Maria got off to a rocky start, losing the first game of the match, the world No. 33 gradually picked up the pace and went on to win the set 6-4, taking the last four games in a row!
The second set turned into a one-woman show, with Sakkari finding an excellent rhythm and her opponent (No. 177) unable to keep up with her at any point in the match.
The Greek tennis player’s next opponent will be 31-year-old Nao Hibino of Japan (No. 190), with the two players set to face off in the early hours of Thursday (September 24) for a spot in the tournament’s quarterfinals.
