Omonia announced that it has reached an agreement with Utrecht regarding the transfer of Nikola Panagiotou.
The Cypriot center back is leaving the “Greens” after seven years and is taking a major step in his career to play in one of Europe’s top leagues, the Eredivisie.
The announcement: “A fairy-tale journey, in which the phrase ‘Never give up’ is perfectly embodied! This is the soccer career of Nicolas Panayiotou, who never stopped believing in himself, joined Omonia at the age of 19, worked hard, seized every opportunity with both hands, and over the next seven years achieved what might have seemed impossible to others, but for him, they were dreams he was determined to make a reality. And he did it!
Today we wish our own Nikola Panagiotou “Good luck” on this major step in his soccer career. He’ll now be playing for Utrecht in the Dutch first division, and by his side in every match, in every challenge, in every success, in every challenge—in addition to his own family—the second family he has earned through his hard work, sweat, and sacrifices: the OMONOIA family.
Nicholas Panayiotou joined OMONOIA in the summer of 2019 and celebrated two league titles, two cup titles, one first-place finish, and one shield, as well as six qualifications (three for the UEFA Europa League and three for the UEFA Conference League) to the group stages of European competitions! He made 180 appearances wearing the shamrock on his chest, scored 7 goals, and provided 6 assists, while also becoming a key player for the Cyprus national team.
A man of integrity, who deeply appreciated and respected everything that Omonia and its fans offered him—a fact he demonstrated every time he stepped onto the field. He gave it his all. Always. He was a consummate professional, working hard and with dedication; he was exceptionally talented, had a pleasant personality, and was beloved by his teammates. That is why he succeeded.
Nikola, thank you!
Best of luck in this new chapter of your career!”
