ALPHANEWSLIVE

Nikolas Koursaris, a member of the Ethics and Sports Protection Committee, spoke on “SPOR FM 95.0” and outlined the official position on the Kafou case.

We remind you that the committee has launched an investigation into whether match-fixing occurred, following the complaint filed by AEL.

Regarding AEL’s allegations: “I would like to note that the committee decided to conduct an investigation following an official complaint filed by AEL. After reviewing the contents of the complaint, the committee determined that the conditions for an investigation have been met and unanimously decided that the investigation will begin within the next few days.”

What exactly will be examined: “Through the investigation to be conducted by the official, potential offenses and match-fixing will be examined. At the end, he will reach a conclusion and submit it to the committee.”

How long will the investigation take: “It is set at 3 months, and if necessary, the official will request an extension.”

Regarding whom he will summon: “He will summon those whom he himself considers to be involved, or who may be involved, or who can provide testimony.”

Regarding whether there is a precedent for requesting VAR recordings: “VAR recordings have been requested in some cases and were provided by the Cyprus Football Association (KOP).”

What does it mean that match-fixing may have occurred: “If the official concludes that match-fixing may have occurred, the committee then examines whether all the evidence has been collected and forwards it to the Attorney General. In the event of a disciplinary offense, the case is referred to the relevant federation. The committee does not make the final decision; it conducts the investigation and proceeds with the next steps.”

He also added: “The committee is in the process of signing a cooperation agreement with Sport Radar, a company that deals with betting and potential match-fixing. On November 27 and 28, representatives from the company will come to train members of the federations and the committee. At the same time, there is the option to file anonymous complaints.”
