A new era is officially beginning at Olympiacos.
As previously reported, the “Red-and-Whites” had reached an agreement with Imanol Alguacil, who has now been announced as the new head coach. In fact, he will hold his first practice with his new team this afternoon.
He replaces José Luis Mendilibar, who left the Piraeus-based club on Wednesday evening (September 9).
The full announcement reads:
“Olympiacos FC announces the start of its collaboration with head coach Mr. Imanol Alguacil Barrenechea.
Born on July 4, 1971, in the town of Orio in the Basque Country, he is a product of Real Sociedad’s youth system, having served the club for many years both as a player and as a coach.
The 55-year-old coach led Real Sociedad’s first team for 6.5 seasons, from 2018 to 2025, overseeing 330 matches. Under his leadership, the team won the Copa del Rey in 2021.
His last team before joining Olympiacos was Al-Shabab of Saudi Arabia.
Olympiacos FC welcomes Mr. Alguacil to its family.”
