Olympiacos launched a direct attack against Yiannis Alafouzos at the Super League Board of Directors meeting, following the League president’s proposal regarding television rights and centralized management. According to available information, Yiannis Alafouzos made a proposal that Olympiacos describes as an “abomination” and one that “creates a mechanism for financing teams.”
Following Alafouzos’s proposal, there was a strong reaction from Olympiacos, with their representatives stating: “Instead of coming here as the president of the Super League, you’re coming here with theories as a Panathinaikos supporter and telling us about creating a body that will pay the teams that join it! And what if a second or third organization is formed?”

Furthermore, Olympiacos representatives noted that “Mr. Marinakis proposed two years ago that Olympiacos take a financial loss, and the other three of you couldn’t even agree among yourselves! Now, for the first time in history, the teams have a contract for the next three years and can be sustainable and plan for the future. So if the big four have to support the smaller clubs, they should naturally do so through the League, not through non-soccer organizations and funds. Because this raises issues of competition and legal violations, and there are courts involved.”
Furthermore, the Red-and-Whites are requesting studies from the Super League and from experts so that the centralized management proposed by Yiannis Alafouzos can move forward. “For everything you’re saying, do you have any studies, articles, anything? Or just a single page of paper we’ve received with theories? We all want centralized management, but one structured by the Super League and based on serious studies by technocrats,” was the conclusion of the statement from Olympiacos officials.
