The EuroLeague released its own power rankings ahead of the season’s first tip-off, placing Panathinaikos first and Olympiacos second.
Regarding the “Greens,” it notes: “The only concern for their fans centers on the knee surgery that Kendrick Nunn underwent last month. Nan’s absence from most, if not all, of the preseason training may slow down the process of building the necessary chemistry. The question is how Zeljko Obradovic will manage to strike a balance among all the stars on the roster from the start of the season.”

As for the European champions? “Even with the uncertainty surrounding the Thomas Walkup saga, the ‘Red-and-Whites’ have plenty of options at the guard positions and strong leadership from their veterans. At the same time, the recent addition of Embi Ediay significantly strengthens the frontcourt. The question for the Piraeus team is whether the prospect of a repeat championship will serve as a boost or a hindrance in the first half of the season.”
