New shocking revelations are coming to light regarding the scandal in Greek basketball, which led to the arrest of the president of the Greek Basketball Federation (EOK), Vangelis Liolios, as well as one of his associates and four individuals involved in officiating—whether in positions of authority or on the court.
On Mega TV’s “Live News” program, police reporter Vasilis Lampropoulos referred to the witnesses on whose testimony the arrest warrants were based. A testimony from 2023 has resurfaced in the public eye.
It involves a Ukrainian referee who officiated the 2021 EuroCup final between Unics Kazan and Monaco. In that game, Monaco prevailed and secured their spot in the EuroLeague for the next five years.
The referee in question alleged that Ilias Koromilas approached him and offered him 10,000 euros to help the Russian team win. The Ukrainian referee then found himself in a very difficult position, as even at halftime, he was under pressure from Koromilas to call plays in Unics’ favor.
