Frenaros FC: “Do we have to mourn victims before those in charge take action?”

Statement regarding an incident involving a player's injury
ALPHANEWSLIVE

A scathing statement from Frenaros FC 2000 targeting both the STOK Elite Division Federation and the Cyprus Football Association (CFA).

As they report, despite the warnings they raised with the relevant authorities regarding safety at the Thyella Agios Theodoros and Orpheus stadiums, there was no response.

Unfortunately, this concern had negative consequences, as during the team’s match against Thyella, a player suffered a neck injury after hitting the concrete located right next to the sideline.

The statement: “At the last meeting of the Elite Division clubs, as FRENAROS FC 2000, we clearly raised the issue of the approval and safety of soccer fields, with specific references to the Agios Theodoros and Orpheus fields.

Unfortunately, today this issue is no longer merely a concern or a warning. In the 20th minute of today’s match, a player on our team sustained a neck injury after striking the concrete surface located directly next to the sideline. Our player was picked up by an ambulance and is being transported to Larnaca Hospital for the necessary examinations. We must, at long last, ask ourselves: Do we have to mourn victims before the authorities take action? We want to make it clear that we do not place any blame on the Agios Theodoros club, nor are we turning against it. People play on the field available to them and on the field that has been approved for them.In fact, from the very moment the incident occurred, they acted immediately, calling an ambulance and taking the necessary steps. The responsibility we are assigning lies with the Federation and the relevant bodies of the Cyprus Football Association (CFA), which have the authority to inspect and approve sports facilities. The safety of soccer players cannot be a secondary issue, nor can it be addressed only after the fact, when a serious incident occurs.

As FRENAROS FC 2000, we are anxiously awaiting updates on our player’s condition and hope that his injury proves to be minor. At the same time, we would like to inform you that, starting Monday, we will be sending official letters to the relevant authorities and issuing further public statements, demanding clear answers and concrete action. We call on those in charge to finally assume their responsibilities. The protection of human life and the physical integrity of athletes must be non-negotiable. Findings and discussions are not enough. Action, oversight, and solutions are needed before it is too late. We wish our player a speedy recovery. We hope we will never have to face a similar incident again.”
