Panathinaikos achieved its goal in Sofia, defeating CSKA 1948 2-1 in extra time and thus advancing to the Conference League playoffs!
The vice president of the “Green” club, Takis Fyssas, after the match, emphasized the tremendous effort being made to build a team capable of beating anyone while also playing beautiful soccer.
Here’s what he said in detail: “This
is a very difficult period, and we have to come out of it unscathed. We have to be reasonable. A tremendous effort has been made; many players have joined the team, and it’s not easy to build a cohesive group. The coach has worked very hard; there’s no room for trial and error at this stage.
We didn’t make any mistakes today—we advanced—and we’re buying time to be fully prepared for the next round, which will take us to the League Phase. Every game has its own unique challenges; we need to win all three qualifiers. The team is still being built; the coach didn’t come here to put together a team in just one month.
We want to build a team that can beat anyone, is competitive, and plays beautiful soccer. The fans have shown that they understand the circumstances; the players gave it their all, and our supporters helped us a lot. They deserve great joy, and we’re gradually moving on to the next game.”
