Paphos’s representative to the Cyprus Football Association (CFA), Filippos Georgiou, sent a pointed message via social media in response to the intense criticism the team has been facing.
He highlighted the high expectations surrounding the team, as well as the varying fan reactions from game to game, while recalling the team’s performance in recent years.
Here is his post in full:
“We must hold the world record for insults, name-calling, and belittling. On Thursday we’re gods, on Monday we’re useless; on Saturday we’re heroes, on Sunday we’re good-for-nothings. I’m trying to figure out who gave us the right to take victory, the title, the championship, and the cup as a given—not to mention that if we don’t win the double undefeated, it’ll be a failure; I imagine that if we lose in Larnaca, we’ll have to disband. I, for one—and I hope many others—remember very well where we came from, who we are, and how much heartache and bitterness we’ve endured. That said, I don’t recall the words “top 6,” “cup,” “shield,” or “championship,” nor do I remember the “league phase.” I wish everyone a great season, and the team will fight for every match and every title until the very end. Those of you who can, please support the effort; those who can’t, simply respect those who do. I will not respond to anyone, with all due respect to everyone and to every opinion that differs from my own.”
