Having been called… selfish many times, Lamine Yamal wanted to respond to them by emphasizing, more or less, that if you can control your ego, then it becomes a great asset.
“I think that selfishness, when it’s well-controlled, is something truly great and wonderful for any team and player. As long as it’s under control. But when you want to be more selfish than one of your teammates, that’s when the problems start.
But as long as that ego stays internal and you keep it in check, it becomes something that truly benefits the whole team.
For example, I could never be part of a team that steps onto the field thinking we’re going to lose or that we can’t win. “I always want to have teammates on my team who believe they’re the best and that they’re playing on the best team,” he said.
