Yiannakopoulos: “There’s physical violence, and not even an investigation is being opened?”

He commented on the incident involving Bartzokas

Olympiacos lost 96-94 to Virtus in Bologna in the third round of the EuroLeague, with Carr sealing the victory for the home team by sinking a buzzer-beater three-pointer that was celebrated by him and his teammates in front of Giorgos Bartzokas.

The head of Panathinaikos BC, Dimitris Giannakopoulos, commented on social media about the Olympiacos coach’s reaction, citing damage to the league’s reputation and calling on the EuroLeague to take action.

Here is what he said in his post:

“As a shareholder in this league, as a team owner. When I see such actions—that is, people defaming the product, which the EuroLeague has done a good job with, at least in recent years, increasing its value and so on— When these actions go unpunished, unlike those of the officials—and I include myself in that.

Here, players are hit with fines in the tens and hundreds of thousands just for saying something about a referee. And there’s physical violence, yet not even an investigation is opened? I just don’t get it. Either we protect it or we don’t. It’s not right that just because I stepped three meters behind the scorer’s table, I’m suspended for three games right in the middle of the Final Four—if there were coaches, players, officials, or anyone else who gets physical and no one touches them—they’re off-limits. I mean, come on.”
