On his first day with his new team, Giannis Antetokounmpo made NBA history with an impressive debut in a Heat jersey. The Greek superstar scored 35 points in his first official game with the Florida team, breaking a record held by LeBron James since 2010!
Specifically, Antetokounmpo became the player with the most points in a debut for the Miami Heat, surpassing the 31 points LeBron James had scored on October 26, 2010, when he made his first official appearance with the team. Sixteen years later, the “Greek Freak” claimed that record, kicking off this new chapter of his career in the most impressive way possible.
Giannis came out strong in the game against the Timberwolves, scoring 21 points in the first half alone. He finished the game with 35 points, shooting 13-for-19 from the field, 9-of-14 from the free-throw line, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist in 30 minutes of play, demonstrating from the very start his offensive capabilities and his intention to take on a leading role with his new team.
However, the Greek international’s historic performance did not result in a victory. The Timberwolves prevailed 131–106, spoiling the Heat’s season opener. Despite Antetokounmpo’s efforts, Miami was unable to keep pace with its opponents and suffered a heavy home loss.
