Ivan Jovanović appeared unwavering in his philosophy and that of the Greek national team during the press conference ahead of Sunday’s match against Germany (September 27, 9:45 p.m.) in Augsburg. The national team coach reiterated that Greece will fight with everything it has to give the “Panzers” and the Netherlands, and emphasized that Jürgen Klopp’s arrival makes their task even more difficult.
Jovanović stressed that the national team must avoid the mistakes it made in Serbia, and when asked about possible changes, he replied that fans shouldn’t expect a major rotation.
When asked what the national team needs to improve, he replied:
“Soccer is a game of mistakes. Sometimes the opponent capitalizes on them, sometimes they don’t. When the level of play is high, the opponent is more likely to capitalize on them. Our game in Serbia had many positives, but we need to correct certain things.
Germany and the Netherlands are on a different level, and we can’t repeat some of the mistakes we made in Belgrade. The limited training sessions don’t allow for much, but we’ve been together long enough for the players to understand aspects of defensive organization, line spacing, and counter-pressing. “We just need to pay a little more attention.”
