Here is what he said in detail:
On the Nations League’s League A: “These are exciting matches. This is our first time in the top tier of the Nations League, and the six matches against strong teams that lie ahead represent a tremendous opportunity. We’ll certainly see where we stand as a national team, with the goal of remaining in the top tier for the next tournament. I believe that our opponents—such as Serbia, Germany, and the Netherlands—are teams of an exceptional caliber, and the matches will certainly be very interesting.”
On the longer break: “This is the first time this schedule has been implemented. Given how things usually go, I believe this could happen again in the future, at least as far as upcoming tournaments are concerned. It makes things very difficult for the coaches, because we essentially have no time between games to do any special preparation. You understand that there are four games in less than two weeks, plus the travel, so we’ll be spending more time on game analysis than on training. It’s simply something we have to adapt to and deal with—given the importance of the games ahead of us—in the best way possible, keeping in mind that this could also happen next September whenthe European Championship qualifiers.”
On the national team’s return to Thessaloniki: “This national team has always had tremendous support from the fans, just as we saw here in Athens and in Crete. I’m glad we’ll definitely be playing the two matches against Germany and the Netherlands in Thessaloniki, and I’m sure that soccer fans will help us in our efforts in these two very difficultmatches, such as those against the Netherlands and Germany.”
