Omonia defeated Krasava ENY 4-1 at GSP Stadium in a match for the 4th round of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan.
Called upon to replace the suspended Henning Berg, Hector Gonzalez spoke about the changes that brought fresh energy to the team, as well as the big chance the visitors missed before the second goal.
Ivan Stojkovic also emphasized this point, noting that the opponent “punishes” mistakes.
Here are the statements in detail:
Héctor González (Omonia): “We started the game very well, created plenty of chances, and controlled the match. We conceded the equalizer at a point when fatigue set in due to the European match we’d just played. They became dangerous on the counterattack. We talked it over in the locker room, made some adjustments, and the substitutions brought freshness to the team. We knew it would be a tough game because Krasava has some good players whom I know very well personally. We had three really big chances and scored only one; if it had been 1-2 in the 52nd minute, we’d be talking about a different game, but Andreou made the save, and that served as a wake-up call for us. We found solutions through assists, played a very good game, and the players gave it their all for the win.”
Ivan Stojkovic (Krasava ENY): “Congratulations to Omonia on their victory, and also to their fans for the wonderful atmosphere they created tonight. It’s a real pleasure to play in a stadium with such an atmosphere. I think we lost the game because of the chance we had in the 50th minute; from that point on, we fell apart. Omonia has quality and punishes you in every way. We’re focusing on what we can do to improve; if the club decides it needs to take a different approach, then we have no problem with that. We want what’s best for the team, and we’ll accept whatever decisions are made.”
