Thomas Walkup remains a transfer target for Dubai BC, according to the team’s general manager, Dejan Kamenjasevic, in an interview with Mozzart Sport, once again bringing up the topic of the Olympiacos guard.
“We’re looking for a point guard. That’s no secret. One of the players is Thomas Walkup. It will depend on whether we can reach an agreement with Olympiacos or if he opts out of his contract. We were looking at a lot of players. We were in the running for many names, but we didn’t succeed because they decided that right now, money is their top priority. We’re looking for someone who will fit into the system we’ll be playing next season, who Xavi (Pascual) will like, whom we can afford, and who will fit perfectly within the salary cap. The transfer window isn’t over for us yet. We still have work to do, and we’ll definitely get it done over the next 10 to 15 days, before we start training camp on August 24,” he said.
It should be noted that Dubai BC offered Walkup a contract worth 3 million euros per year; however, the offer to Olympiacos did not exceed 1 million euros and was rejected. The Texas-born star, who has one year remaining on his contract, is expected to report for the start of the team’s preseason training next week.
