With 12 points and 1/13 shots, Victor Wembanyama set a negative record for shooting percentage in the season opener for a player who was on the NBA’s All-Star team the previous season. The French superstar was harshly self-critical after the Spurs’ loss to the Thunder (104–116).
“I need to get back to playing the kind of basketball I love. This isn’t the sport I love. I have no reason to hesitate. No reason not to be myself. For me, it’s that simple. I perform well when I’m having fun,” he emphasized.
“Webby” explained that his missed shots early on affected his decision-making as the game progressed. “I missed a lot of shots that I usually make. After that, I didn’t attempt those kinds of shots again. I was hesitant. Maybe I’m overthinking it. What I really need to do is let go. I don’t need to do more; I need to think less,” he said.
